Energy Emergency Alerts

When unexpected strains are put on the Texas electric grid and demand for electricity threatens supply reserves, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) may require PEC and other electricity providers to take measures to reduce their members’ or customers’ impact on the grid, including voluntary conservation efforts, voltage reduction and planned rolling blackouts. ERCOT notifies member utilities of the measures through its Energy Emergency Alert system, which consists of different levels of action designed to stabilize the electric grid.
PEC has a plan in place to respond to the various levels of action required in the event ERCOT issues an alert. Our departments work together to promptly take whatever action is required to help ERCOT prevent widespread, extended blackouts.
In addition, we notify members and the media of the situation through press releases, this website, Facebook and Twitter. We provide updates as the situation improves or requires additional action.
As part of our continued dedication to providing reliable service, PEC and its primary wholesale power provider, the Lower Colorado River Authority, regularly run drills to practice our planned responses to electric grid emergencies.
