Renewable Energy
For more than 70 years, PEC has delivered electricity from renewable-generation sources.
The Cooperative's goal — established by Board resolution in 2008 — is to purchase or generate up to 30 percent of our electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
On Oct. 1, the Co-op proudly partnered with the Texas Solar Energy Society to present its first Hill Country Solar Tour. An estimated 200 Co-op members and guests learned about PEC interconnection while Cathy Redson of ImagineSolar shared the benefits of solar in a Solar 101 presentation, which can be viewed below. Members and guests were then welcome to explore renewables during a self-guided tour of Dripping Springs and Oak Hill-area solar installations.
Watch highlights from the Hill Country Solar Tour, plus an interview with PEC District 4 Director and Board Vice President Chris Perry.
Wind-Power Purchase
PEC contracts with AEP Energy Partners to purchase wind power produced at the South Trent Wind Farm near Sweetwater, Texas. In all, our wind-power purchase is expected to produce enough electricity to power 22,000 to 27,000 of our members’ homes.
Interconnection
We encourage our members to take advantage of solar panel technology and other small power-production equipment.
If you’ve purchased power-generation technology and are ready to put it to work, please contact us at least 60 days before interconnection and send in your Interconnection Agreement. Be sure to review our updated Interconnection Policy before completing the agreement.
Net Metering for Interconnection
Interconnected service uses net metering, which routes power through a single meter that measures the PEC-delivered electricity you receive and subtracts the amount of electricity exported by your equipment. This saves you the expense of purchasing an additional meter and allows you to receive a credit for any surplus electricity. Surplus electricity above what you consume during your billing period is credited to you at PEC’s avoided cost, which is the fuel cost, with no capacity component.
In accordance with PEC's interconnection policy, the avoided cost for bills rendered on or after February 1, 2012, is $0.03190 per kilowatt-hour (kwh).
