Serving a community is more than providing electricity. We help enrich the communities we serve by providing support such as: - PEC Scholarship Fund. Each year, PEC awards scholarships to graduating Hill Country seniors who are bound for colleges or technical schools.
- Youth Tour Contest. The high school students who win this contest earn an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
- Donations to support high school senior activities. Each year, PEC contributes money to area high schools for their senior class activities, including Project Graduation. These donations help schools provide alcohol- and drug-free events for the senior class.
- Our Green Works initiative. PEC has an ongoing effort to increase environmental awareness and conservation.
- Our Partners in Learning program. PEC assists local students in their educational pursuits by contributing to education foundations throughout our service area.
- Supporting Lady Bird's Legacy. We're partnering with the Austin American-Statesman and other cooperatives to support this campaign through 2012. The goal is to seed wildflowers throughout Central Texas highways and communities, helping achieve the former First Lady's dream of beautifying America.
- Participation in the Rural Crime Watch Program, Texas Amber Alert Network, and National Child Identification Program.
- A free Speakers Bureau. PEC representatives visit community groups to discuss topics from electrical safety to tree care to energy management.
- Our United Charities program distributes thousands of dollars each year to local charities, which is funded through voluntary employee payroll deductions and corporate-matched funds.
- Our Light the Way program. Each year, PEC donates money to various nonprofit organizations throughout the Hill Country.
- Partnering with Habitat for Humanity®. PEC provides free electricity to Habitat for Humanity homes within our service area during the construction phase, waives start-up fees, and helps new homeowners with their first $100 of electric use.
- PEC contributes funds each year to community action programs in our service area. These programs lend assistance to eligible PEC members who are unable to pay their electric bills. In addition, credit amounts less than $5 from final bills are transferred to help support this cause, unless a refund is requested.
- Donations of equipment and volunteer expertise for local community projects.
- Community assistance with grant writing, business retention, and community development.
- PEC employees are involved in their communities.
- PEC donates annually to livestock organizations in our service area, such as Future Farmers of America chapters, 4-H clubs, livestock associations, booster clubs, and junior livestock shows. These are the 2009 organizations.
