The Cooperative Difference

Pedernales Electric Cooperative is more than an ordinary utility. We’re a cooperative, meaning that we follow seven cooperative principles. It also means that you’re more than a customer — you’re a member, an owner of the cooperative with unique privileges and rights.

Member-owned, member-governed

Decisions about our rates, bylaws, options and more are approved by our PEC Board of Directors, a seven-member team of members just like you, elected by members just like you. You have the power to affect PEC’s operations today and in the future. You can run for board directorship in your district and vote in our elections, attend our monthly board meetings and the PEC Annual Meeting and share your thoughts through open member comment.

Capital credits

As a nonprofit cooperative, we don’t pay dividends to shareholders. Instead, when revenues exceed expenses, we earn margins, which we reinvest in our operations and eventually return to you in the form of capital credits. Read our capital credits FAQ »

Members first

We take pride in delivering safe, reliable and low-cost electricity to all of our members, whether you’re powering your home, business or ranch. That’s why we take pride in offering rates and payment options to suit your needs, and why every PEC employee, from the Member Services agents who answer your phone call to the engineers who design our system, comes to work every day dedicated to serving you.

Community-oriented

More than 80 years ago, local farmers and ranchers came together to form PEC and bring electric service to the Hill Country when no other utility would. We’ve never forgotten that we were created by our members, serve our members and that the strength of our cooperative lies in the strength of our community. That’s why we give back in a variety of ways, including grants to area nonprofits, volunteer days, youth programs and more.

Thank you for being a PEC member. We’re proud to serve you.
