Randy Klaus was elected to the PEC board in 2017. He is a licensed CPA with over 37 years of experience as an expert witness on utility matters in the electric, telecommunications and water utility industries, including 21 years of service at the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). He was previously employed by MCI/WorldCom.
At the PUCT, Klaus advised commissioners on public policy matters, prepared reports for the Texas Legislature, performed bill analysis, drafted legislation and settlement agreements, and assisted the Office of the Texas Attorney General on enforcement matters. Over his career, he has uncovered instances of fraud in utility rates and government funds and has exposed over-earnings in the telecommunications industry. He also served as president on the Board of Directors of North Central Austin Growth Corridor Municipal Utility District No. 1.
Klaus holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a PEC member since 1990. Klaus resides in Austin with his wife, Becky.
