PEC celebrates National Cooperative Month

Proudly rooted in unique guiding principles

PEC is nationally recognized for industry-leading reliability and friendly member services, but it’s the “Cooperative” in our name that sets us apart. We’re proud to celebrate our members and cooperative spirit during October, National Cooperative Month.

As a cooperative, PEC is firmly rooted in a set of seven, unique principles that guides our business decisions.

  • Voluntary & open membership
  • Democratic member control
  • Members’ economic participation
  • Autonomy & independence
  • Education, training & information
  • Cooperation among cooperatives
  • Concern for community

Unlike other utilities, we’re owned by our members, who steer the organization through democratic, open and transparent annual elections.

Part of the unique relationship between a nonprofit cooperative such as PEC and our members is that members also share in the cooperative’s financial performance through annual capital credit distribution.

And while electricity is our business, our purpose is not only to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity but also to enrich and add value to our members’ lives. Like other cooperatives, we have a special responsibility to support the communities where our members live and work.
