You know you pay for the energy you use, but what are all those other items on your bill? Our Understanding Your Bill series helps break it down.
Depending on where you live, you may see a line item on your bill titled “Franchise Fee.” This indicates that you live in a city or town that charges a fee to utilities to use city streets and public ways to provide electric service to the residents and businesses within that city’s limits.
Franchise fees are negotiated between each city and utility and are passed through to PEC members on their bills. If you have questions about the franchise fee on your PEC bill, please contact your local city officials.
If you don’t see this line item on your bill, don’t worry. This just means you live in an area with no franchise fee.
