PEC announces 2018 board election candidates
At its April 16 meeting, Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s board of directors approved the ballot for the 2018 PEC election. Seven cooperative members will run for three open director positions in districts 1, 6 and 7.
The following candidates have qualified to run for seats on the board (their names are listed in the order in which they will appear on the ballot):
- District 1: Donna Holland Wilcox, Milton Rister and Frank Haskell
- District 6: Paul Graf and Andrew W. Cable
- District 7: Travis Cox and Amy Lea SJ Akers
These candidates achieved nomination by meeting the eligibility requirements in the cooperative’s bylaws, collecting 50 required member signatures on a petition, and completing other official paperwork. The qualifications and elections committee, which reviews each candidate applicant, provided their recommendation to the board at its April 16 meeting. The order of candidates on the ballot was determined by a random drawing among the candidates at a candidate orientation April 12.
Directors must reside in the district from which they are seeking election, and cooperative members from districts 1, 6 and 7 are eligible to vote in this year’s election.
PEC members are invited to learn more about the candidates at an upcoming forum on Thursday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at PEC headquarters (located at 201 S. Avenue F in Johnson City). Board candidates will be given five minutes to present their platforms and will take questions from PEC members in a moderated format. Links to videos from the event will be available online.
Voting in this year’s election begins May 24 and runs through June 15. Members may vote online, by mail or online via SmartHub. Members can also vote online through an iPad device at PEC’s Canyon Lake, Junction, Kyle, Liberty Hill and Marble Falls offices, plus PEC’s headquarters.
This year, the cooperative is offering incentives for early voting. Members who vote by June 15 will be entered in a random drawing for $150 bill credits. Members may also choose to vote in person at PEC’s annual meeting, to be held June 23 at Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch. Election results will be announced before the conclusion of that meeting.
