PEC Community Grant applications open through Oct. 1

Cooperative invites area nonprofits to apply

Pedernales Electric Cooperative invites area nonprofits to apply for community grants of up to $5,000. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct 1.

Our semiannual grants are open to organizations within or surrounded by PEC’s service territory. Grant funds may be used for projects that include technology, capital improvements or equipment related to energy efficiency. Past recipients include the Science Mill children’s museum in Johnson City, Girl Scouts of Central Texas, Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department, Marble Falls Senior Activity Center and Hays Communities YMCA.

“As a cooperative, it’s important for us to give back to our communities and make sure they are thriving and vibrant,” PEC Community Engagement Director Trista Fugate said of the grants. “Providing support to local nonprofits is just one small way the co-op can have a hand in the success of our community.”

Our grants program is supported by members who participate in PEC’s Power of Change round-up program. Participants elect to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar each month, and the combined funds support PEC Community Grants and other community giving efforts.

“It’s crucial for people to sign up and be active in Power of Change, so we can continue to fund worthwhile projects,” Fugate said. “The average donation is $6 per year, and it makes a real difference in the community.”

Members interested in supporting local nonprofits may enroll in Power of Change via SmartHub, by phone, on their payment slip or by visiting a PEC office.

PEC Community Grants applications must be received by email or mail by Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. Learn more about the program and download the full eligibility requirements and submission guidelines.
