Power and system outages Saturday, July 7
PEC members affected by AT&T telecommunications outage
At PEC, we strive to provide you with the absolute best possible service, from reliable power to affordable rates. Unfortunately, a series of events occurred this past Saturday, July 7 that resulted in extended power outages across certain parts of our service area.
Earlier that day, AT&T experienced an outage to its fiber optic telecommunications, affecting a large part of the Hill Country and beyond, including SmartHub and our phone systems. Around the same time that afternoon, storms created weather-related outages across our service territory, primarily in the Liberty Hill, Bertram and Kyle/Buda districts.
Affected members were unable to report outages via SmartHub during this time but were able to use our emergencies and interruptions phone line. Unfortunately, during AT&T’s outage, any outages that were reported through our phone system did not get logged. Therefore, we had no notification or immediate visibility of these outages, and our interactive outage map was not displaying accurate data. We were able to set up alternative methods of reporting outages while the phone system was down, including a text message service as well as dedicated email and phone lines.
Our staff worked tirelessly through the day and into early the next morning to repair our systems, enter outages and restore power as quickly as possible.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience any affected members may have experienced during this time. We greatly value and appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
