Tax-free weekend for ENERGY STAR® appliances is May 25-27
Upfront savings that can help lower your utility bills
Are you interested in upgrading your appliances to make your home more energy efficient? Between May 25-27, you can buy eligible items tax free by selecting ENERGY STAR products.
The following ENERGY STAR-labeled items can be purchased tax free:
- Air conditioners (with a sales price of $6,000 or less)
- Refrigerators (with a sales price of $2,000 or less)
- Ceiling fans
- Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
- Clothes washers
- Programmable thermostats
Water heaters, clothes dryers, freezers, stoves, attic fans, and heat pumps are among the items that are NOT eligible, even if they are ENERGY STAR certified.
There have been major advances in the energy efficiency of appliances in the past 20 years, and ENERGY STAR labeled products typically use 10-40% less energy than other models. Tax-free weekend offers a great opportunity to save money on upfront costs and make an investment that will help reduce energy bills in the future.
Also tax free the same weekend are products bearing the WaterSense label, as well as water conserving products including plants, trees, mulch, and soil — making this weekend the perfect time to prepare for some energy-efficient landscaping!
Please note: For air conditioners and refrigerators, additional costs such as delivery and shipping charges are considered part of the sales price; be sure the items you choose will be under the limit. For more details on limitations, visit the Texas Comptroller’s site.
