A new time for Power Rush Hour
Peak energy time frame shifts to 2-7 p.m. this summer
The time when most people collectively use power in Texas, also known as Power Rush Hour, has changed this year. The shift means Power Rush Hour will begin an hour earlier this summer — with a new time window of 2-7 p.m., rather than the previous time of 3-7 p.m.
During the months of June, July, August, and September — PEC encourages its members to shift energy use to before or after Power Rush Hour. It takes everyone’s help participating in Power Rush Hour, but by working together, our efforts can help reduce transmission costs for next year.
Follow these tips from 2-7 p.m. to decrease energy demand:
- If you’re home, set your thermostat to 78 degrees.
- When you leave home, raise your thermostat an additional 3-5 degrees.
- Avoid using major appliances.
- Close shades and drapes during the day.
- Use ceiling fans to feel cooler, but turn them off when you leave the room — fans cool people not spaces.
