ENERGY STAR® Sales Tax Holiday is May 23-25
Upfront savings on appliances can help lower your utility bills
Are you looking for ways to make your home more energy efficient? From May 23-25, you can buy eligible items tax-free by selecting ENERGY STAR products. Purchasing energy-efficient appliances could save more than $100 a year.
The following ENERGY STAR-labeled items can be purchased tax-free:
- Air conditioners (with a sales price of $6,000 or less)
- Refrigerators (with a sales price of $2,000 or less)
- Ceiling fans
- Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
- Clothes washers
- Dishwashers
- Dehumidifiers
- Programmable thermostats
Water heaters, clothes dryers, freezers, stoves, attic fans, and heat pumps are among the items that are NOT eligible, even if they are ENERGY STAR certified.
There have been major advances in the energy efficiency of appliances in the past 20 years, and ENERGY STAR labeled products typically use 10-40% less energy than other models. Tax-free weekend offers a great opportunity to save money on upfront costs and make an investment that will help reduce energy bills in the future.
Please note: For air conditioners and refrigerators, additional costs such as delivery and shipping charges are considered part of the sales price; be sure the items you choose will be under the limit. You can find more details on the Texas Comptroller’s website.
