Look to your HVAC for energy savings

Conserve energy by taking care of your HVAC

Did you know that more than half of your energy bill this time of year comes from cooling your home? With the hot summer months in full swing, you can save money by focusing conservation efforts on your HVAC system. Use the tips below to keep things cool and efficient.

  • Have a certified HVAC technician perform yearly maintenance on your system. Change your air filter every 30-60 days, or anytime it is dirty or clogged.
  • Keep your thermostat set to 78 degrees or higher between 2-7 p.m. and turn it up when leaving the house.
  • Use weatherstripping to seal air leaks around doors and windows, and caulk around gaps and holes in and outside your home.
  • Keep all supply vents and interior doors open to ensure maximum air flow throughout the house.
