PEC wins Greater Austin Business Award for community relations

Austin Chamber award calls out cooperative’s positive community impact

We’re PEC Proud to be named a winner of the Austin Chamber’s Greater Austin Business Awards in the Community Relations category, among medium-sized companies. The annual event, held virtually December 8, recognizes businesses in the region with unique visions, innovation, and best business practices.

In the Community Relations category, the award celebrates businesses that have demonstrated success in corporate social responsibly and making a positive impact in their community.

“PEC has a strong history of serving and supporting our communities, and it’s an important part of our culture as a cooperative,” said PEC Executive Vice President of Public Affairs Mike Viesca. “It is an honor to be recognized by the Austin Chamber among so many worthy organizations.”

In the past four years, we’ve provided more than $215,000 in community grants to over 50 area nonprofits to help fulfill their missions. PEC also awarded more than $1 million in scholarships, and each year, sends 10 high school students to Washington, D.C., on an all-expense paid Youth Tour hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Our PEC employees donated more than $250,000 in 2019, and $265,000 in 2020 to more than 230 charitable organizations through the cooperative’s United Charities program.

This year, 185 unique companies and organizations of all sizes submitted over 250 nominations to the Greater Austin Business Awards. Nominations within each category were grouped by size and evaluated by an independent panel of judges representing a diverse community.
