Press Release: PEC employees donate more than 5,000 school supplies to area schools
Supplies raised by employees to benefit local school districts
Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) employees teamed up to provide a bright start to the school year for area teachers and students. Across its offices, PEC employees donated more than 5,000 school supplies to benefit school districts across the cooperative’s service territory. Supplies donated in each PEC office will be distributed locally in the area served. Blanco ISD, Bertram Elementary School, Dripping Springs ISD, Hays CISD, Johnson City ISD, Junction ISD, Leander ISD, Liberty Hill ISD, and Marble Falls ISD will receive the school supply donations.
“We understand this year has been particularly challenging for schools and families,” said Caroline Tinsley Porter, PEC’s community relations manager. “We hope our employees’ generous donations of supplies will help make the transition just a little bit easier on them.”
According to the National Retail Federation, the average household with children in elementary through high school will spend more than $850 on back-to-school items, which is almost $60 more than last year. PEC held its first employee school supply drive in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the second year PEC has hosted the drive and cooperative employees plan to continue collecting school supply donations on an annual basis.
“Our employees have huge hearts, especially when it comes to helping our communities and supporting our members,” Porter said. “We’re thrilled to see these contributions used to help this important cause and to be a part of benefitting students across PEC’s service area.”
