Press Release: PEC to begin work upgrading Junction meters
Project to improve reliability and outage response
Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) will begin upgrading meters for its members in the Junction district. The project, scheduled to start November 15, will provide cooperative members with solid-state Two-Way Automatic Communication System (TWACS) technology. PEC’s Junction members can expect additional benefits from the meter upgrade project including: increased service reliability and lower maintenance costs for members and the cooperative.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to provide safe, reliable power, we look forward to completing this project for our Junction members,” said Eddie Dauterive, PEC chief operations officer. “We’re thrilled to provide these upgrades to strengthen our system. If members have questions or concerns, we encourage them to reach out to us.”
The upgraded meters are not wireless and do not connect to members’ home Wi-Fi systems or household devices. Instead, they connect with PEC’s system and communicate over existing power lines to provide more accurate usage readings for billing purposes. Members will receive letters, emails, and phone calls in advance of the work beginning to alert them of the project.
PEC’s contractor, Allegiant Utility Services, will be performing the meter upgrades and the project is expected to be completed in May 2022. Each meter will take less than five minutes to change out and the residence will be without power during that time. Members do not need to be present during the upgrade. However, those who would prefer to schedule an appointment, may do so by calling Allegiant Utility Services at 888-502-1845.
PEC members with questions or special instructions to access their property, such as gate codes or lock combinations, should contact the cooperative directly at 888-554-4732, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
