PEC kicks off holiday season with world-famous lights and community giving
Cooperative raises awareness for its Power of Change Program benefiting area nonprofits and education foundations
Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is gearing up for the holiday season with the co-op’s world-famous holiday lights and an effort to support community nonprofits.
Central Texans looking to get into the holiday spirit early can visit PEC Headquarters in Johnson City and take a stroll under the oak trees adorned with more than 1.3 million sparkling lights. PEC’s holiday lights will turn on at 6 p.m. and run until midnight daily, starting November 25, 2022 through January 8, 2023, as part of Johnson City’s Lights Spectacular. The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
In the spirit of giving, PEC is also raising awareness about the co-op’s Power of Change Program that helps support area nonprofits. Visitors to the lights can make a one-time donation to the program that funds community grants for nonprofits and supports local education foundations in the cooperative’s service territory. PEC members can also enroll in the program to have their electric bills rounded up to the nearest dollar for charity. The average donation for members who round up is less than $1 per month.
Since starting the program six years ago, PEC members have provided nearly $500,000 in grants to 74 nonprofits — from food banks and animal shelters to volunteer fire departments, and others. See a list of PEC’s all-time recipients.
