Warming hearts and homes

More reasons to love your PEC membership

Our roots in the community run deep at PEC, and no matter how much we grow, we work hard to stay true to these roots. So, while we may provide power to more than a million Central Texans, we also care for them. In addition to powering your home with safe, reliable electricity, PEC employees and members give back through a variety of programs that help strengthen our communities.

Community Grants

Each spring and fall, we award community grants of up to $5,000 each to eligible nonprofit organizations. These grants help those nonprofits fund projects that make a difference in PEC’s service territory and surrounding communities. The grants are funded through our Power of Change Program, where participating members opt to round up their bills to the nearest dollar each month. Since 2016, together with our members, we’ve provided more than $268,150 in grants to 66 nonprofit organizations. Want to join and help? Enroll today and learn more at pec.coop/power-of-change.

Scholarships

As part of our ongoing commitment to youth and education, PEC will offer $100,000 in scholarships in 2022. These scholarships can be used toward expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, technical school, or trade school. And for the second consecutive year, PEC is also offering one scholarship to an adult seeking to further their education. Details and more information are available online. Apply starting February 1 and learn more at pec.coop/scholarships. The scholarships are funded by unclaimed funds returned to PEC by the state.

Education Contributions

Supporting education helps create a powerful future for our communities and every year, PEC provides $1,000 each to local education foundations across our service territory. We’ve also developed a variety of free online learning programs to help support youth education, including PEC’s EmpowerU and Camp Save-a-Watt. Parents and educators can access a series of electricity-focused educational materials for students through these programs. Visit pec.coop/our-community for more information.

Employee giving

Many of our employees are members too, and like our members, PEC employees have big hearts and provide a variety of charitable contributions to benefit the cooperative’s members and the Texas Hill Country. In 2021, employees raised more than $288,000 for 244 charities through PEC United Charities. They also collected more than 5,300 school supplies for area schools and 375 toys for Santa programs in our service area.
