Employees bake their best for PEC

Co-op hosts employee bake-off competitions to celebrate 85 years

PEC employees and their families are gathering at the cooperative’s various offices from September 6-28, to put their best baked goods forward in celebration of the co-op’s 85th anniversary. Entries range from cakes and cookies to pies and a variety of delicious confections.

The first contest was held in Junction on Wednesday, September 6, and Candace and Lauren Morrison of Junction’s The Honey Bean Coffee and Tea Company served as the competition’s grand prize judges.

Employees from the Kyle office competed on September 11, with Julie Albertson from Texas Pie Company as judge. Dripping Springs employees competed September 12, with Ted Groholske of Greater San Marcos Partnership as judge.

Liberty Hill employees competed on September 13 with Pamela Wooten of PamCakes — A Cottage Bakery serving as judge. Employees from Canyon Lake competed September 14 with Rebecca Hernandez of Wildflour Artisan Bakery and Grill serving as judge with her team, Jayden Longoria and Evelyn Kennedy.

Cedar Park employees competed on September 21 with Lizzette Allen of The Sweet Cupfé serving as judge. Johnson City employees competed on September 26 with Johnson City Mayor Stephanie Fisher, The Jittery Biscuit’s Becki Mayes, and Johnson City Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Johnson City Lights Spectacular Co-Chair Burt Burkhard served as judges.

Marble Falls competed in their event on September 27 with Lisa Hambrick of Lisa’s Cakery serving as judge.

The final event took place in Bertram on September 28. Sharon Schwartz of Two Peas in a Pot Catering served as judge.

Employees who didn’t compete still had a chance to participate by taste testing entries with a $5 donation to benefit PEC’s Power of Change Program. Throughout its history, we have been committed to caring for our communities through programs like Power of Change that help support local nonprofits. Showing this concern for community is part of our cooperative difference.
