Lineworkers moving on to state competition

PEC crews exhibit their safety, training skills at internal rodeo

PEC’s internal lineman’s rodeo gave our apprentices and journeyworkers a chance to exhibit their knowledge and skills in their trade on April 19 in Spring Branch, and those who qualified will move on to Texas Lineman’s Rodeo in July.

Journeyworkers from all districts performed activities such as hurtman (injured worker) rescue, pole climb, insulator change-out, transformer change-out, tool inspection, and others, and apprentices performed tool inspection, took a written test, and competed in hurtman rescue, pole climb, rope tie, and an obstacle course during Wednesday’s competition.

“This year’s internal lineman’s rodeo was very successful and is such a unique component of the safety and training program,” said PEC Chief Operating Officer Eddie Dauterive. “Although a competition, the foundation of the program is based on safety, skills, and communication while working on the lines.”

The internal competition not only prepares lineworkers for the Texas Lineman’s Rodeo in Seguin, but it also helps them to learn and prepare for daily work in the field.

“The safety and development of our lineworkers are the highest priorities,” Dauterive said. “The camaraderie and teamwork that the rodeo creates across the cooperative is invaluable and an awesome experience to be a part of.”

Congratulations to all those who performed and good luck at the Texas Lineman’s Rodeo July 15, 2023, in Seguin!
