Wirtz Dam to Mountain Top Structure Replacements and Upgrades

Pedernales Electric Cooperative will rebuild and upgrade the 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines between the Wirtz Dam, Johnson City, and Mountain Top substations, replacing approximately 200 poles and all of the conductors along the 25 miles of transmission lines between the stations.

PEC has received approval by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ (ERCOT’s) Regional Planning Group to proceed with converting the lines to 138 kV. Engineering for the transmission lines has been completed.

Purpose of Project

PEC will be replacing all of the poles on these lines to increase reliability. Additionally, the ERCOT Regional Transmission Plan has identified the need to convert the lines to 138 kV by 2023.

Schedule

PEC’s target date for completion of the project is April 2020.
