Efforts continue, more than 60,000 members restored overnight
Pedernales Electric Cooperative crews are making significant progress in the effort to restore members as quickly and safely as possible. Overnight, the cooperative restored nearly60,000 members, from 81,000 members who were out of power yesterday afternoon at the peak of the event. More than 40 crews from across the state arrived late Thursday to assist with restoration efforts.
As of 5 p.m., 94% of members have power. PEC is managing over 22,000 outages systemwide. PEC staff will work around the clock to bring power back, and won’t stop until every last member’s service is restored. Crews also continue to restore isolated outages across PEC’s 8,100 square-mile service area.These outages take time to repair. While we have made progress, there is still widespread damage, and it is difficult to provide a system-wide restoration time. Some outages could extend into the weekend. The prolonged outage times are due to significant infrastructure damage from heavy ice and downed trees and branches, as well as difficult terrain.
Members are encouraged to:
- Report outages by calling 888-883-3379, reporting thru SmartHub app, or texting ‘Outage’ to 25022.
- Don’t use your stove or oven for heat. Gas stoves and ovens produce carbon monoxide, and electric ones pose a fi re risk when not used as designed. Don’t run your car in the garage as a way of warming up.
- Only run the car outside, and before you start it, make sure that the exhaust pipe is clear of snow and debris. These steps could save you and your family from carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Never run a generator closer than 20 feet from doors and windows to prevent fumes from entering the home.
